PureVPN Review 2026
Streaming powerhouse with stronger 2026 transparency, but renewal terms still need care.
I have been using PureVPN on and off since 2023 and it has always been one of the easiest VPNs for streaming. I refreshed this review in May 2026 because PureVPN has changed enough since our April update to deserve another look: new server locations, a virtual-location clean-up, clearer transparency messaging, ISO 27001 wording on the Trust Center and current checkout pricing. Here is my honest take on whether it is still worth it in 2026.

To understand the 8.6/10 score, you have to split the user base in two:
Brilliant unblocking, fast speeds and simple apps. Still excellent if you grab it on an intro deal and review renewal terms.
Better Trust Center signals and repeated audits help, but the old 2017 history and limited public audit detail still matter.

The Everyday All-Rounder
Great Intro Pricing, Then Renewal Reality
PureVPN is still priced aggressively on long-term introductory plans. At the time of this May 2026 update, PureVPN's public pricing page showed the 2-year Standard plan from $2.15 per month, billed $57.95 on purchase, with Plus and Max plans costing more. The monthly Standard plan was listed at $12.95 per month. UK checkout totals can vary by currency, tax and promotion, so I would treat the per-month headline as an intro price and always check the renewal line before paying.

What It Nails
- Streaming Powerhouse Dedicated streaming routes are still the big reason to choose PureVPN, especially for Netflix, BBC iPlayer and Disney+ testing.
- Expanded Location Network PureVPN now promotes 80+ locations, and its March 2026 expansion added more locations across Europe, Asia-Pacific, North America and Latin America.
- Better Trust Signals The Trust Center now highlights a fourth no-log assessment, BVI jurisdiction, VPN Trust Initiative membership and ISO 27001 certification.
- Beginner Friendly Clean apps, 10 simultaneous connections, a 31-day money-back guarantee and enough platform support for most households.
The Drawbacks
- Renewal Terms Need Care The intro price is attractive, but the non-discounted monthly prices are much higher and auto-renewal terms should be checked before buying.
- Virtual Location Changes PureVPN is removing many virtual locations while retaining others. That should improve reliability, but it also means the location list is shifting in 2026.
- Some Upselling The checkout and app ecosystem can nudge you towards extras such as password management, dark web monitoring, data removal or dedicated IP add-ons.
- Past History Lingers The 2017 incident is old, and PureVPN has clearly improved since, but privacy purists will still want fuller public audit visibility.
What Changed Since April 2026?
May 2026 Accuracy Update
The biggest new information is not a dramatic app redesign, it is the infrastructure and trust picture. PureVPN announced a March 2026 server-location expansion across Europe, Asia-Pacific, North America and Latin America, including new or optimised locations such as Zagreb, Nicosia, Rome, Auckland, Vancouver, Dallas, Mexico City, Bogotá and Lima. It also introduced streaming-optimised servers in Switzerland.
At the same time, PureVPN's support site now says it is removing a large number of virtual locations, retaining some and converting some physical locations to virtual ones. That makes the older blanket claim of "6,500+ servers in 65-plus countries" less useful for readers. I have updated this review to focus on the currently promoted 80+ locations and the practical impact of the network clean-up instead.
User Experience
Desktop & Mobile Apps
The apps are clean and straightforward. No flashy maps or unnecessary gimmicks. Just a simple list of locations, a big connect button and quick-access smart servers for streaming or gaming. I connected on my Windows laptop, Android phone and iPad without much friction, and split tunnelling and the kill switch are still easy to find if you need them.
The 2026 app experience still feels built for regular users rather than technical tinkerers. That is good for beginners, but power users may wish the app was less sales-led around add-ons and a bit more transparent about physical versus virtual locations inside the interface.
Privacy Specs
PureVPN has cleaned up its act nicely compared with the brand's older reputation. The British Virgin Islands base means PureVPN says it is not legally required to store customer data, and the Trust Center now points to a fourth no-log assessment, independent accountability work, VPN Trust Initiative membership and ISO 27001 certification. In my own packet analysis during testing I saw no DNS or WebRTC leaks.
10 Devices at Once
You can protect a whole household or travel setup on a single subscription. PureVPN currently states that one account can have up to 10 devices connected at the same time.
Performance & Speed
WireGuard Delivers
WireGuard remains the protocol I would start with. On my 500 Mbps UK fibre line I regularly saw 420-460 Mbps in earlier 2026 testing, which is more than enough for 4K streaming or large downloads. The only time I noticed any slowdown was on a couple of very busy European servers during peak evening hours, but switching to a nearby alternative fixed it quickly.
The March 2026 location expansion should help some users by reducing routing distance and improving redundancy, but speed will still depend on your base connection, selected server, protocol and local congestion.
Feature Comparison
| Feature | PureVPN | Typical Competitor | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Streaming | Excellent, with dedicated streaming routes | Varies | Superior |
| Locations | 80+ promoted locations plus 2026 expansion | Often 60-110 locations | Competitive |
| Pricing Intro | Very competitive on long-term plans | Similar discounts common | Strong |
| Renewal Price | Needs careful checkout review | Varies by provider | Watch out |
| Audits & Trust | Fourth no-log assessment, BVI, Trust Center, ISO 27001 | Varies widely | Solid |
The Trade-Offs
Before you click buy, here is what you are accepting. PureVPN is fantastic for streaming and everyday protection, but the renewal and add-on wording means you should treat checkout as part of the review. Check the total billed today, the future renewal amount, whether any extras are ticked, and whether a trial converts into a longer subscription. I would also set a calendar reminder before the renewal date.
Past Controversies
Old Issues, Better Current Signals
The 2017 FBI server request is still brought up online, and that is fair context for any VPN review. Since then, PureVPN has moved its legal jurisdiction to the British Virgin Islands, built its no-log messaging around repeated independent assessments, published transparency information and added stronger Trust Center claims. That does not erase the past, but the 2026 product is in a much better place than the old reputation suggests.
Ownership & Jurisdiction
British Virgin Islands Base
PureVPN says it moved its legal jurisdiction to the British Virgin Islands in 2021. That matters because its Trust Center says PureVPN is not legally required to store customer data there. Combined with a no-log architecture and repeated external assessments, it is a solid privacy foundation for everyday users. I would still like to see audit evidence made easier for readers to review without needing to request reports.
FAQs
Does PureVPN work with Netflix and other streaming services?
Yes. It has dedicated streaming routes that remain reliable for Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Disney+ and more in our 2026 checks. Streaming platforms change blocks regularly, so test your most important services during the refund period.
What is the money-back guarantee period?
31 days. That gives you enough time to test speed, streaming, apps and support before deciding whether to keep the subscription.
Does PureVPN have a free trial?
Some browser extension setup flows show a 7-day trial option, but the main full-service safety net is still the 31-day money-back guarantee. Always check whether a trial requires payment details and what it renews into.
How many devices can I connect?
Up to 10 devices at the same time on one account, which is enough for most households or travel setups.
What changed in the May 2026 update?
I updated the review date, pricing language, trial wording, server-location claims, virtual-location context, privacy wording and schema markup. The review now reflects the March 2026 location expansion, PureVPN's virtual-location clean-up, Trust Center updates and current public pricing page wording.
SUMMARY BY ECH THE TECH FOX
PureVPN is still one of the easiest and most effective VPNs for streaming and general use. The May 2026 update makes the review more accurate around pricing, locations, virtual servers, audits and trial wording. If you grab it on a long-term intro deal, check the renewal terms and set a reminder before renewal, you will probably be happy with it.

"From an auditing perspective, PureVPN has come a long way. The repeated no-log assessments, BVI jurisdiction, Trust Center work and ISO 27001 messaging are reassuring, and the WireGuard performance remains impressive. The renewal and add-on wording is still the main thing I would flag to readers. Overall it remains a strong, practical choice for most people."
