IP ADDRESS CHECKER
Free Public IP Address Checker & IP Location Lookup
What is my IP address? Use this free IP address checker to find your current public IP address, public IPv4 or IPv6, IP location, country, region, city, ISP, ASN and hostname details in seconds.
This public IP lookup tool shows the same browser-facing network information that websites can usually detect. Run it before and after connecting to a VPN, proxy or mobile hotspot to check whether your IP address changed and whether your VPN IP is the one websites now see.

IP Address Checker Guide
What This IP Address Checker Shows
Your IP address is the public Internet Protocol address that websites see when your device, router, mobile network or VPN connects to them. This IP address checker displays your current public IP address and the IP lookup details connected to it, including location, ISP, ASN and hostname where available.
What Does Your Public IP Address Reveal?
A public IP address can reveal your approximate IP location, country, region, city, internet service provider and network owner. It does not reveal your exact GPS location or home address by itself, but it can still be used as part of browser fingerprinting, fraud checks, analytics and location-based content controls. For the wider privacy picture, see how websites track VPN users.
Public IP vs Private or Local IP
Your public IP address is the address websites and apps see on the internet. Your private IP address, also called a local IP or LAN IP, is used inside your Wi-Fi or office network and often starts with 192.168, 10 or 172.16 to 172.31. This page checks your public IP, not your private router address.
Why Hide or Change Your IP Address?
People hide or change their IP address with a VPN, proxy or different network to improve privacy, reduce tracking, secure public Wi-Fi, avoid exposing their ISP IP and check location-based access. If this lookup shows the wrong location or your normal ISP IP, you may want to change your IP address. For the most useful VPN IP check, run this tool before connecting to your VPN and again afterwards to confirm the public IP changed.
IP Address Checker Glossary
IP Address, IPv4 and IPv6
An IP address identifies a connection on the internet. IPv4 is the familiar format with four numbers separated by dots, while IPv6 is a longer address separated by colons. Depending on your ISP, mobile network or VPN, this tool may show a public IPv4 address, a public IPv6 address or both through the lookup APIs.
IP Location and Geolocation
IP location, also called IP geolocation, estimates where an IP address is registered or routed. It can show country, region and city, but it is not GPS. If your IP address location looks wrong, your ISP, VPN provider or mobile carrier may be routing traffic through another location.
ISP, ASN and Network Owner
Your ISP is the internet service provider or network currently carrying your traffic. An ASN, or Autonomous System Number, identifies a larger network block used for routing. ISP lookup and ASN lookup details help explain which provider, VPN server, proxy or data centre owns the public IP address. If the result shows your normal provider, check what your ISP can see online.
Hostname and Reverse DNS
A hostname is a readable label that may be attached to an IP address through reverse DNS. Some public IP addresses have useful hostnames that include ISP, VPN or server clues. Others simply return the IP address or no hostname at all.
VPN IP, Proxy and IP Leak Checks
A VPN should make websites see the VPN server IP address instead of your normal ISP IP. A proxy may change only some traffic, and browser features can still expose extra signals, so it is worth running this IP lookup and then using a browser privacy test to check for WebRTC leaks. For a fuller privacy check, compare this public IP address checker with a DNS leak test and read whether a VPN can be tracked.
Static IP, Dynamic IP and Dedicated IP
A dynamic IP can change when your ISP refreshes your connection. A static IP usually stays the same. A dedicated VPN IP is a fixed VPN address assigned to one account, while a shared VPN IP is used by many customers at the same time.
IP Address Checker FAQs
What does this IP address checker show?
This IP address checker shows the public IP address websites can see when your browser connects to them. When available, it also displays your IP version, approximate IP location, country, region, city, ISP, ASN and hostname.
How do I check my public IP address?
Open the IP address checker and let the scan run. The tool detects your current public IPv4 or IPv6 address and returns the IP lookup details provided by public network data sources.
Why is my IP location only approximate?
IP location is based on ISP, VPN and network registration data, not GPS. It may show a nearby city, your ISP routing location or a VPN server location rather than your exact physical address.
How can I check if my VPN changed my IP address?
Run the IP checker before connecting to your VPN, then connect to the VPN and run it again. If the VPN is working, the public IP address and usually the IP location should change from your normal ISP connection to the VPN server.
