NordVPN Obfuscated Servers: Full Country and City List (2026)
See every available obfuscated location, learn how to enable it, and choose the best server for a restrictive network.
NordVPN obfuscated servers are specialty connections that make VPN traffic harder for restrictive networks to recognise and block. This guide shows the supported countries and cities, explains the OpenVPN requirement, and helps you choose a practical server location.
Quick verdict: 16 countries and 20 listed locations
At a glance
Our June 2026 check found NordVPN obfuscated server support in 16 countries and 20 listed locations. Coverage is strongest in Europe and North America, with additional options in Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, Türkiye and the United Arab Emirates.
Choose the nearest available location first. A shorter route usually means lower latency, while a second nearby country gives you a useful fallback if the first connection is slow or blocked.
What Are NordVPN Obfuscated Servers?
NordVPN obfuscated servers are designed to conceal the recognisable signs of VPN traffic. Instead of advertising an obvious VPN tunnel, the connection is made to look closer to ordinary encrypted web traffic. Our separate guide explains how VPN obfuscation works in more detail.
NordVPN places these connections under Specialty Servers. They are intended for restrictive Wi-Fi, networks that block common VPN protocols, and locations where normal VPN connections are difficult to establish.
NordVPN currently requires OpenVPN TCP or OpenVPN UDP for obfuscated servers. If the option is missing or greyed out while NordLynx is selected, change the protocol to OpenVPN and reopen the Specialty Servers menu.
NordVPN’s NordWhisper protocol is a separate connection option for difficult networks. It should not be confused with the OpenVPN-based obfuscated server category covered on this page.
The list below focuses only on NordVPN obfuscated server countries and city locations. It does not include the provider’s full regular, P2P, Dedicated IP, Onion Over VPN or Double VPN network.

Which Regions Have NordVPN Obfuscated Server Support?
Coverage is concentrated in Europe and North America. Asia-Pacific has three listed options, while Türkiye and the United Arab Emirates provide the two Middle East entries. Because the obfuscated network is smaller than NordVPN’s regular network, not every country or city is available.
| Region | Countries | Locations | Countries Listed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Americas | 2 | 6 | Canada, US |
| Europe | 9 | 9 | France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom |

| Africa and Middle East | 2 | 2 | Türkiye, United Arab Emirates |
How to Enable and Connect to NordVPN Obfuscated Servers
To connect, first change the NordVPN app’s protocol to OpenVPN TCP or OpenVPN UDP. Then open Specialty Servers, choose Obfuscated, and select a country when the app offers manual location selection.
- Open NordVPN settings and choose OpenVPN TCP or OpenVPN UDP.
- Return to the main server screen and open Specialty Servers.
- Select Obfuscated for an automatic connection, or choose an available country.
- If the option is still missing, fully restart the app after changing the protocol.
For device-specific screenshots and menu paths, use NordVPN’s official obfuscated server connection guide.
Best NordVPN Obfuscated Server Locations For Restrictive Networks
The best location is usually the closest one that connects reliably. Start nearby to reduce latency, then test a second country if the first route is congested or blocked. Obfuscation can add overhead, so compare your result with our latest NordVPN speed tests rather than expecting the same speed as a nearby regular server.
Best Starting Picks
- Europe: Start with the nearest major hub—Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris, London, Zurich or Stockholm are sensible first tests.
- North America: The US provides the widest city choice, while Toronto is the listed Canadian option.
- Asia-Pacific: Singapore and Tokyo are the clearest starting points; Hong Kong is listed without a separate city name.
- Middle East: Use Istanbul or Dubai according to which route is geographically closer.
Legal note: Obfuscated servers can help with network blocking, but local laws, workplace rules and service terms still apply.
NordVPN Obfuscated vs Regular vs Double VPN
These server types solve different problems. Regular servers prioritise everyday speed, obfuscated servers make VPN traffic harder to identify, and Double VPN sends traffic through two VPN servers. See how NordVPN Double VPN works for the two-hop setup.
| Server Type | What It Does | Best For | Trade-Off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular | Standard encrypted VPN connection. | Everyday browsing, streaming, apps, and general privacy. | May be easier for strict networks to identify and block. |
| NordVPN Obfuscated | Disguises VPN usage so a NordVPN connection is harder to identify as VPN traffic. | Restrictive Wi-Fi, VPN-blocking networks, and countries with heavy internet controls. | Requires OpenVPN and can be slower than a normal nearby server. |
| Double VPN | Routes traffic through two VPN servers instead of one. | Extra privacy layering and higher-risk privacy scenarios. | Usually slower because traffic takes a longer route. |

Complete NordVPN Server ListFAQs: NordVPN Obfuscated Servers
What are NordVPN obfuscated servers?
They are specialty servers that disguise the recognisable signs of VPN traffic, helping connections work on networks that identify or block common VPN protocols.
Does NordVPN have obfuscated servers?
Yes. They appear under Specialty Servers, but only selected countries and locations support them.
Where are NordVPN obfuscated servers located?
This June 2026 list contains 16 countries and 20 locations across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.
How do I enable and connect to NordVPN obfuscated servers?
Choose OpenVPN TCP or OpenVPN UDP in the app settings, open Specialty Servers, and select Obfuscated. Pick a country when manual selection is available.
Do NordVPN obfuscated servers work with NordLynx?
No. NordVPN currently uses OpenVPN TCP or OpenVPN UDP for its obfuscated server category.
Why are NordVPN obfuscated servers not showing or greyed out?
The selected protocol is usually the cause. Switch from NordLynx to OpenVPN TCP or UDP, restart the app, and reopen Specialty Servers.
Which NordVPN obfuscated server should I use?
Start with the closest available country to reduce latency. If it is blocked or slow, test the next-nearest option or a major regional hub.
Are NordVPN obfuscated servers more private than regular servers?
They add stealth rather than a separate level of encryption. Regular servers are usually better for everyday speed; obfuscated servers are intended for difficult or restrictive networks.
Are NordVPN obfuscated servers slower?
They can be. Obfuscation adds processing and the location pool is smaller, so choose the closest working server for the best chance of good performance.
What is the difference between NordVPN obfuscated servers, regular servers, and Double VPN?
Regular servers provide a standard VPN connection. Obfuscated servers disguise VPN traffic. Double VPN routes the connection through two VPN servers.
Bottom line
Use an obfuscated server when a normal NordVPN connection is being identified or blocked. For ordinary browsing, a nearby regular server will usually be faster and simpler.
